Motolite, the industry leader in automotive batteries, recently gave a big boost to local motorsports when it signed up as the official car battery of the Philippine Touring Car Championship and the Philippine Motorsports Festival and Endurance Race, as well as other events for motoring enthusiasts.
The Philippine Touring Car Championship (PTTC), which runs at the Subic International Raceway, is the only nationally-titled, internationally-recognized car race in the Philippines. The current grid of 30 cars is possibly the largest race grid in Philippine motorsports history. Group 1 consists of highly modified cars, running at average speeds of 180-200kph, while Group 3 has entry-level production cars, running at average speeds of 160-180kph. The current season runs from April to November.
Touring car fans can simulate the excitement at the track by signing up for the Timezone-Philippine Touring Car Series Virtual Racing Competition, to be held in December 2007, at the Trinoma Mall in Quezon City. Racing wannabes will be able to pit their skills against the real race car drivers in virtual races at Timezone.
On November 24-25, Motolite will also be part of the 2007 Philippine Motorsports Festival and Endurance Race. A weekend celebration for car enthusiasts, this annual event showcases various motorsports activities in one venue — the PTTC, Miata Cup, Japanese Sportsman Cup, Ford Focus Cup, Local Sportsman Cup, Vintage Car Race, Run What You Brung, Autocross, Drifting, and Bikes Track Day. Held simultaneously with the Subic Bay Karakoa Festival, the weekend promises to be exciting and fun-filled for motorsports fans.
Motolite was present at the 2007 Bridgestone Bayanspan Night Autocross Series at Tiendesitas in Pasig City last July 14. The Saturday night autocross competition was held at a pylon-defined racetrack, with drivers competing under 19 classes in Newbie, Novice, Experienced, and College Autocross Racing (CAR) categories.
Motolite’s active presence in the local motorsports scene is part of its continuing program to promote Filipino sports excellence. In the past, Motolite has been an strong supporter of international sporting events like the World 9-Ball Championship and international boxing matches.
